Mavrobara Lake is a place of rare beauty and of major ecological importance. Situated some 300m in height and 3km from the main road, since 1998 it’s been a declared a ‘Monument of Nature’ by the Prefecture of Central Macedonia. It is a sweet water lake with a total expanse of 2.200 sq metres. Its age goes back through the centuries.
The lake was created by geological subsidence on land reclaimed from the sea. One myth connects Mavrobara with an underground stream.
